How to choose the right printer for your business

Printing can take too much time and cost too much per print. Also the wrong printer will mean that the printer doesn’t do what you and your staff need it to.

What to consider when choosing a business printer.

  1. What functionality do you want your printers to have? Different departments in a business use different functions.
  2. Look for a business oriented product rather than something designed for home use. Home printers are cheap up front but cost in staff time, functionality and cost per print.
  3. Work out the total cost of ownership. Some printers cost more but will print 7-8000 prints over their lifetime as opposed to cheaper printers that will only print 2-3000 pages.
  4. How many reams do you typically print in a busy month? (A ream is 500 pages).
  5. Work out the page cost per print. Some printers are cheap to buy but expensive to run because of the frequency and cost of replacing cartridges.
  6. Make sure that you get a 3 year onsite warranty – If something goes wrong a technician will come out and fix it.
  7. How reliable is the printer – how often does something go wrong with the particular make and model you are considering? For example some company’s have a 10% return rate on products.
  8. How long can you be without a printer? Make sure that you have more than one printer so that if your main printer goes down you are not stuck unable to print while waiting for repairs.
